Just done in the Shop, Ford 900 Converted to 12 volt Negative Alternator Charging System
Ford 8N Late Model. Engine Overhaul & 12 Volt Conversion August, 2007. This job is all done and sent home to work.
The Ford 8N is just about done. It had a complete major overhaul and we changed the charging system over to 12 volts instead of the OEM 6 volt system. When I say complete overhaul it has new pistons & sleeve kits, rod & main bearing sets, new wrist pin bushings, and complete valve train including guides, valves, springs, keepers and of course the late 8n already has adjustable lifters. If a tractor comes in for an overhaul and has the non-adjustable lifters then we automatically change them over to the adjustable type. It's a whole lot easier to adjust valves with the lifter than to take each valve out and grind a little here and there. The tractor radiator was replaced recently so no need to replace it but if a tractor comes in with a rotted or severely leaking radiator we won't mess with it. We just replace it because by the time we take it to the shop and they charge anywhere from $50.00 to $85.00 to fix a 50 year old radiator and it's possible it will start leaking again, it just isn't worth it. This tractor also got a new clutch kit, from us of course. We sell a complete new clutch kit with the alignment tool, pressure plate, clutch disc, pilot bearing (not the bushing) and clutch bearing for $135.00.
