Internet Explorer can't find your
wireless connection? After a large Windows Update or a early
shut down?
Sometime when Windows updates, you may loose your wireless connection
to Internet Explorer after it restarts
. Windows is always updating your computer so this could happen at any
time. Even without you knowing it.
Your web browser and your internet connection such as wireless or dial
up are two separate programs that must work together to function
properly.
In computer lingo the co-operation of these two programs is called "A
HandShake".
The "HandShake" is what makes the two programs work together and
without it you can see your computer is connected to
your internet provider and you can open your browser, but you can't
surf the net.
If you downloaded Firefox web browser before you had problems with
your connection "HandShake" with IE, Firefox may actually work while
IE may not.
I'm not sure why but when you update Windows it sometimes changes your
LAN "Local Area Network" settings in IE to what I assume is a default
as
if you don't have a LAN setup on your computer and it's waiting for you to
install a wireless or dial up connection.
Enough of this, if you want to talk tech, you came to the wrong place.
What I did to get my IE to "HandShake" recognize my wireless connection is
as follows.
First of all I would like to have you make sure your computer has
recognized your wireless connection. We will assume it does.
Second, that Internet Explorer or your computer does not have any
virus attached to it. "most likely not" unless you don't have an
updated virus program on your computer.
Let's get started.
1. Open Internet Explorer 8 or 9 or whatever IE browser you have, "yes
we know, it opens but there's no internet connection. This time it's
OK.
2. If you don't see the File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help at
the top of your tool bar then press the "ALT" key and now you should
see them.
If you still do not see them by just pressing "ALT" then press "ALT and
"F" key at the same time and they should appear.
On IE 9 you will see on the far top right corner a "*" star.
Click on either the "Tools" bar at the top or "*" star on the right and
click on "Internet Options".
3. Click on the "Connections" tab at the top
4. Click on "Never dial a connection" Click "Apply" and proceed to
step 5
5. At the bottom you will see "LAN Settings" Local Area Network,
"Click on LAN Settings.
6. Now click on or check "Automatically Detect Settings" and click
"OK"
6A. Exception. Sometimes you will also need to "Uncheck"
at the bottom "Proxy Server" "Use a proxy server for your LAN" in the
connections "LAN" box.
Make sure there is NOT a check mark in this Proxy box.
7. Now open or refresh your internet explorer browser and it should
connect you to the internet.
It worked for me, I'm not saying it will work for you.
After reading all over the internet, none of the fixes worked so I did
a trial and error and got connected.
I hope it works for you.
